As its title suggests, this album is full of political influence. And while there aren’t a lot of lyrics, Security speaks to us in a voice that’s louder than an anti-war rally. More importantly, the album is relevant to the extent that it sheds a bright light on the political situation in the U.S. and how that affects the rest of the world. As a force of nature, Antibalas physically and musically fill the stage at every single one of their live shows with so many musicians playing their part in this crazy equation, there’s a true sense of accomplishment that comes through, much like the successful completion of your first date. On a more musical note, listen to Security for outrageously talent-filled Afrobeat jams reminiscent of the Fela himself. Is this album important because it’s political? No. The music here is infectiously catchy, groovy and full of that spirited Afrobeat fervor.
